studioness manifest / by Ken Frink

In order to create, one must be willing to destroy.

In order to create, one must be willing to destroy.

Well defined workspace, a studio, helps me focus and get in the creative flow. This year I moved which has thrown things off a little. The garage will soon be remodeled into a studio, today it lingers somewhere between the two.

Right now, at my home, I use the words garage and, studio interchangeably. If I am working on art, it's the studio. If I am finding a screwdriver, it is the garage. I am working with an architect to tip that balance. In a few months, the studioness of the space will far outweigh it's garageness. I am looking forward to that transition. Today I got out a hammer and a pry-bar and tore out some old shelves that were inhibiting the studioness from manifesting. I also have decided that I can part with a fishing net. This net, the kind that you would use to land a large salmon, was hanging from the ceiling in the garage. I think it got hung there on the way out of the moving truck. I hit my head on it every time I went to get a clean sheet of paper in the studio. I don't think the fish are running this year in the desert. If they do, someone else will have to catch them. I feel a theme developing here. Out with the old and useless.
